Aromatherapy – Dr. Minakshi Dutta

Aromatherapy is the use of the aroma (smell) of plant extracts, usually in the form of oils, for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. Aromatherapy involves the use of natural plant extracts (aroma oils) as a holistic healing treatment for the body, mind and spirit. The inhaled aroma from these oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Some of the oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and promote whole-body healing. Each oil has specific properties and uses.
Aromatherapy is a complementary therapy ie, it may not provide a cure for diseases, rashes or illnesses, but it can support conventional treatment of various conditions. It has been shown to-
- Reduce Nausea
- Reduce pain and body aches
- Reduce anxiety, agitation, stress, and depression
- Enhance mood
- Increase cognitive function
- Reduce post-operative nausea and vomiting
Aromatherapy oils are also used in some cosmetics as cleansing, moisturizing, drying and toning agents. Healthy skin can be obtained by the use of essential oils in facial products.
About the Facilitator
Dr Minakshi Dutta practised General Medicine for 2 decades, following which she specialized in hair and skincare, diet, nutrition and fitness for women. She has been running her own clinic in Kolkata for 4 decades now. Dr Dutta has conducted multiple workshops with corporates and has also appeared on regular programs on live television to address questions from viewers in the aforementioned areas.
General Information and Instructions-
- You’ll receive a link to attend the class online; you’ll need to click the link to enter the class.
- If you haven’t used Zoom before click the link to download Zoom prior to the day of the meeting and familiarise yourself with any features you may need to use on the day – mute/unmute microphone, stop/start video, screenshare etc. You may also test your settings at zoom.us/test.
- You may attend the class through Zoom on your laptop or your smartphone.
- Please keep the camera on enabling the facilitator to interact with you. Position your camera properly. Kindly make sure it is in a stable position and focused at eye level, if possible.
- The room must be adequately lit, however there should be no backlights especially from a bright window.
- To help keep background noise to a minimum, make sure you mute your microphone when you are not speaking.
- Be mindful of background noise. When your microphone is not muted, avoid activities that could create additional noise, such as shuffling papers or answering calls.
- You can make it easier to focus on the meeting by turning off notifications, closing or minimizing running apps, and muting your smartphone.
- If you will be sharing content during the meeting, make sure you have the files and/or links ready to go before the meeting begins.
- Plan to join the class 5 minutes before it starts.
