Unmukt Cares & Nightingales Medical Trust Present a Five-Part Interactive Learning Sessions with leading experts in the field
Coping with Alzheimer’s or dementia is challenging. The COVID-19 pandemic and continued stay-at-home orders for seniors have made these challenges even greater. This five-part series addresses the impact of this prolonged isolation on the mental and emotional health of people over 65, with a special focus on families living with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
At least 1 out of 4 of the elderly is forced to live alone in India with no support from family. Lack of infrastructure, social support, and access to affordable healthcare are some key challenges. And approximately 4.4 million people live with dementia in India, and this number is rising rapidly. Recognising the seriousness and the impact of this illness on the community and economy, this series is open to all at no cost.
The following five topics will be covered on every Tuesday at 5 PM:
26th May: Factors Impacting Mental Health of Older Adults: Social Isolation and loneliness have had its impact on older adults. Besides mental health issues during COVID-19 there is the issue of depression that looms large and impacts older adults as they deal with the pandemic all by themselves.
2nd June: Role of Technology in Senior Care: We are at a moment in time, where technology has really propelled the concept of active ageing. This session will explore the different tenets of technology, how caregivers can use it effectively and help in dementia care
9th June: Caregiver Stress: Recognizing Caregiver stress — validating the feelings and emotions of caregivers, addressing guilt, recognising that the ambiguity of the current situation is extra stressful; ending with a reference on how to avoid potential burnout.
16th June: The importance of physical health: The area of physical health among seniors has been a talking point in recent times and we would will explore this realm deeper with a focus on the evolution/deterioration of physical health of an average senior.
23rd June: Stories from the Frontline: We will would bring you deep stories of how caregivers are managing people with Dementia at home, amidst a pandemic which comes with a greater risk.
